The purpose of the Racine Basketball Club, Inc (RBB) is to give the youth of Racine, especially the inner city youth exposed to gang and drug activity, a positive program that is of interest to them. The RBB will make available to the youth of Racine a highly visible development program emphasizing goal setting, hard work, teamwork, self-discipline, self-confidence and parental involvement. Focusing on the game of basketball the RBB will make available an advanced basketball program requiring the development of skills that give the participants a greater chance of success in school and later in life.
The RBB program will be designed to supplement the programs that already exist in Racine and is not intended to compete with them. Examples of these programs are middle school, high school, Optimist and Racine Youth Sports.
In the fall of each year the goal will be to conduct a coaching clinic for parents that wish to coach teams in the Optimist and Racine Youth Sports programs. The clinics will teach the basics of basketball offense and defense, pressing, trapping and methods to break these defensive techniques, it will teach the fundamentals of coaching, motivating, the appropriate treatment of youth, and good sportsmanship. The program over time will build a team of coaches that will use common techniques, nomenclatures and systems.
The RBB will make available the financial vehicle of a 501(c)3 to interested parents that wish to recruit a traveling basketball team. The teams will compete in tournaments around the Midwest and potentially advance to national tournaments. Tax exempt contributions can come into the club in one of two ways. Contributions that are restricted to a specific team will be placed in a fund for the exclusive use of that team. Expenses for the team will be reimbursed by the club to the limit of the team’s fund. Unrestricted contributions that come into the club will be used for club operations and to subsidize club sponsored teams as determined by the RBB board of directors. There will be full financial disclosure of fund activities to all participating teams.
Qualified expenses that will be reimbursed by the club include basketball expenses for: facility fees, equipment, uniforms, tournament fees, transportation and housing costs for attending tournaments.
To be a RBB sponsored team the coaches of the team must have attended a RBB coaching clinic and have picked their team from public try out. The club will require that the team advertise for two days in the Racine Journal Times for a city wide public try out that will last a minimum of two days.
